The second annual CFedS workshop and dinner was held in Spokane, WA on March 8, 2008, in conjunction with the ACSM Spring Conference.

At the workshop Greg Argil (Chief, Branch of Land Titles and Records, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Northwest Region) and Tom Caster (BLM Indian Lands Surveyor (BILS), Northwest Region) explained why there is a need for fee to trust conveyances, how the process works and the role CFedS will play by executing the boundary evidence standards.

Later that evening over 60 people attended the dinner. Special guests included Don Buhler, Chief Cadastral Surveyor, BLM, Curt Sumner, Executive Secretary, ACSM, Pat Beehler, President, NSPS, Rita Lumos, past President NSPS, Tim Kent, Area 10 Director, NSPS and the keynote speaker, Ross Swimmer, Special Trustee for American Indians.

Mr. Swimmer spoke about the history of the Indian trust and the challenges the Department of the Interior faces in managing the trust accurately and efficiently.

New CFedS Panel members Mike Hart and Tom Tauchus were introduced and outgoing Panel members John Farnsworth, Roger Green and Gregg Tuttle were recognized for their contribution to the program.

Steve Ackerman concluded the evening by reminding CFedS that “You are a living component of the Fiduciary Trust Model, and whose trust responsibility you must now pay forward in your professional duties.”
