Renewal FAQs

Every CFedS must complete at least six continuing education credits per two year registration period. Upon visiting your “My Account” page, you’ll notice the amount of credits our system has counted for you (e.g. “2 of 6”) as they relate to your current period and upcoming renewal.

Why doesn’t my renewal button work?

The renewal button will remain inactive until at least six continuing education credits are completed (for your current two year registration period). Once the six credit threshold is met, your renewal feature will become available.

To purchase and complete additional CE credits, please choose from our list of available courses.

If you feel you’re missing credits for this period or need assistance, don’t fret. We have a record of all previously purchased and completed CE courses for registered CFedS. You may open a support ticket for a closer review.

Why aren’t all of my courses showing?

At this time, the only courses referenced within your My Account page are those currently offered via online delivery. Over the last fifteen years, numerous courses were offered that are either being converted or not intended for conversion therefore not listed. Unless a course is offered via our system, it will not be listed under the “Open” or “Completed” course tab(s).

Rest assured, we have a record of all previous CFedS CE course purchases + completions but do not intend to list all previous courses at this time.

What about rollover? I believe I’m missing rollover credit(s).

Rollover credit was previously offered but is in the process of being phased out to ensure that program participants remain engaged in continuous education over the two-year renewal period.

If you believe you’re missing rollover credit for your current renewal period, please open a support ticket.

My renewal has lapsed or will but I wish to rejoin the program. What are my options?

It depends on how long it has been since your certification lapsed (within the two week grace period, 45 days, inside of 4 years or “Expired” beyond 4 years). The following is from the standards manual:

Failure to renew will result in temporary suspension (“Expired status”) for non-renewal: (Certified Federal Surveyor Program handbook, H-9687-1, Chapter III, D-4); Certified Federal Surveyor Program Standards of Practice Handbook:

4a. There is a two week grace period, after which the CFedS name will be removed rom the active roster. (CFedS Program Certification Panel decision 02-20-2009)

b. Where the renewal has not been completed within an additional 45 days a $75.00 late fee will be assessed. (CFedS Program Certification Panel decision 02-20-2009, 02-04-2013)

c. To renew a Certification within four years of expiration: (CFedS Program Certification Panel decision 02-04-2013)
i. 6 continuing education credits must be completed;
ii. the renewal fee must be paid;
iii. the late fee must be paid; and
iv. the next renewal date will be two years after the Certification has been renewed.

d. Where a Certification has been “Expired” for a period of four years the CFedS will be removed from the program (“Withdrawn” status), effective June 5, 2015. (CFedS Program Certification Panel decision 02-04-2013)

To initiate a late renewal, please submit a support ticket.

I believe I’ve taken all available CE courses. What should I do?

In some unique instances, some of our original CFedS have taken all currently available CE courses or are close to having done so. If you believe this to be the case, open a support ticket.

An account coordinator will review your account to make sure that no additional CE is available to you at this time; in the event this is the case, your CE status will be marked as “in progress” until a satisfactory amount of CE is made available to you.

Are extensions available if I’m unable to complete my renewal or required CE in time?

All available extensions have been granted at this time. Renewal reminders are sent starting six months from the date of your renewal and again at 90/60/30/14/7 days. We advise reviewing your account and planning a CE completion strategy ahead of time to avoid a lapse in your certification.
